I'm about to purchase a 1990 Prout Event 34. The current owner had lots of problems with the Yanmar diesel and outdrive leg, so removed the works. He added an outboard bracket to the aft end of the bridge deck and covered the outdrive hole with a cover. The outboard he selected was a Yamaha 25hp 4 stroke with a 20" shaft. The outboard (in the center of the bridgedeck) extends just pass the end of each hull.

The problem is the outboard cavitakes in ruff water. A 25" shaft would have worked much better, but isn't available.

Has anyone else converted a Prout Event 34 to use a single outboard?

Is there an outboard motor bracket available that would allow the engine to be lowered close to the water (current one is fixed) and still allow the outboard to be tilted?

Maybe a hole could be cut out out the bridge deck just above where the outdrive leg comes out of the narcel and a new bracket made from the outdrive hole?

I know some of the older Prout 31s and older 35s have outboards and believe this was a factory option. I've never seen one, so maybe someone could send me a photo or explain the installation?

All ideas would be very helpful. You can email me direct at rwmcreynolds@yahoo.com.
Thanks, Bob

I think my 31 originally had an outboard installed. The Sillette leg cover is much larger than any I have seen and on the inside of the engine compartment, it is trimmed out with teak trim. It appears to me that the outboard was mounted to the lower part of the opening of the original cut out. I'm not sure if you follow me, but if my Bukh ever craps out, I am converting to an steerable outboard with hydraulic lift. It would save me about 400 lbs over the weight of the Bukh
