Most catamaran owners feel hard done by when they are charged 50% extra for a marina berth when frequently the Cat is only a few inches more beamy than a Mobo with the same LOA....

If you find 'Catamaran Friendly' marinas then do please share the information..........

Michael

Sovereign Harbour (Eastbourne) charge the same rate for multihulls as monohulls, provided you can fit on a hammerhead and one is available. They are keen to persuade multihull owners to have a finger pontoon berth and to pay for both spaces within that berth. A tri owner I know does pay for the double berth, we are luckily on a hammerhead and pay only the same as a mono of the same length.

I believe Brighton Marina does the same and they are both owned by Premier Marinas.

Two of my favourite spots:

Folly Inn (South of Cowes) - no additional charge
On the Buoys at Lymington (or the town jetty if you must) - no additional Charge.

Here are the ones I can remember, some may be a bit out of date-

Port Edgar (firth of Forth): +50% regardless

Caledonian canal (BWB berths): flat rate

Grimsby: flat rate

Ramsgate: +50% on fingers, flat rate alongside breakwater

Dover: +50% in tidal basin, flat rate in locked basins.

Boulogne: flat rate

Northney: flat rate if alongside/hammerhead, +100% if occupying 2 finger berths (probably the same for all MDL)

Cherbourg: flat rate

St Peter Port: flat rate

Lezardrieux: flat rate

Plymouth Mayflower: +50% regardless

Newton Ferrers: +50% on pontoons, flat rate on buoys

Dartmouth (harbour board berths, not private marinas) flat rate

Multihull centre R. Tamar: flat rate

Falmouth visitors' marina: flat rate

Mylor: +100% regardless

Penzance wet dock: flat rate

St Michael's mount: flat rate (sometimes free!)

only familiar as a a visitor but the following are my experiences:-
Aberystwth - no surcharges as visitor
Holyhead - no surcharges as visitor
Neyland - no surcharge as visitor or permanent, also give back % of berth fees when let to visitors
Milford Marina - can get surcharge waived with some effort
Preston - no surcharges
Conwy and Deganwy - surcharges

...and I note how many people said, when we talked about switching to a multihull, "you'll have to pay double at all the marinas". With Snowleopard's list it appears that paying 50% or 100% surcharge isn't all that common.

That is because so many half boat owners would love the space, but are so hide bound by tradition that they cant allow themself (or anyone else) to have a decent boat!!!! Rolling Eyes

All these seem to be in the U.K.

Try 'Yacht Marine' (not Netsel), Marmaris, Turkey, www.yachtmarine.com . The best marina in the Med. and the cheapest - believe it or not - with all the facilities of a 4 star hotel and virtually everything you need on site including all the trades and a 330t lift.!
This is our 3rd overwinter there.

Hi bg9208,

Yes I do, it is all the West & South side of the bay on the North side of the ithmus at 36 49.103 N 28 18.331 E. It is 20 mins. by Dolmus (minibus running every 20mins at about 1 Euro) from Marmaris town. If booking ask for Nasli, the manageress, and mention Jean & Keith on 'La Liberte' it might help. Good luck. Keith.

Gosport Premier Marina do not charge extra for cats providing you can lie alongside one of the 'linear' pontoons, but it can be bumpy with the ferry traffic.

Out of the peak periods Lymington is cat friendly.

Bembridge don't welcome cats when it's busy.

Yarmouth do not penalise cats and we've always been made welcome.

Avoid Berthon at all costs.
