Hi Prout Snowgoose Elite owners.

I have recently had the mast table of my Elite modified to allow me to use a spinnaker. I have a tri radial spinnaker and am seeking some advice from Elite owners about the best way of rigging the sheets etc. Someone has suggested that I rig a taut wire between the forward hulls and attach one clew to a sliding ring that can be controlled on the wire with a small purchase rig led back to the cockpit. This would seem to turn the fixed clew into a tack so the tri radial effectively becomes an assymetrical rig. Anyone got any thoughts.

Look forward to hearing from anyone who can help.

Thanks and regards.

Hi Bill

I think I have got it figured out.

Firstly don't even consider a taut wire between the two hulls as this has the potential to rack the boat ie twist the hull longitudinally.

Having researched this now I believe the best option is to use what is known as a 'tacker' that fits around the furled headsail and can be adjusted with the use of a tackline - see www.atninc.com. This allows a symetrical spinnaker to be used like an asymetrical spinnakers and when used with a sock makes spinnaker handling a breeze particularly if short handed.

Hope this helps you for when the time comes that you too wish to fly a kite.

Best regards.

Steve
