storage areas needed

We are preparing for blue-water cruising Fall 2008 from California to points south and west. We are trying to figure out how to store everything we need. Has anyone built in more storage? If so, where? Have you found a good way to use areas creatively? Do you have a hanging locker somewhere? Where do you store all your food supplies?

There are so many different configurations of interiors that I hesitate to suggest particular ideas. I know that I have lots of storage under the forward deck accessible from the heads area. There is some flat space available under the bed or seating area forward the salon. Mine was accessed by unscrewing the wooden panels. We have converted the aft cabin adjacent to the galley as storage and frig/freezer area. You certainly do not want to put lots of weight in the bows, and you don't want to have a floating barge. I had considered removing the diesel and drive leg and replacing with a modern 4 stroke outboard with hydraulic lift. This would help lighten the aft end by over 300 lbs. But the diesel is just so darn dependable and can charge an enormous amount of amps into the batteries, so I haven't yet. Hope this helps some. By the way, we are trying this on a Quest 31...
